- How Invisalign® Treatment Works
Invisalign is an approach to orthodontics that does not require any use of metal brackets or wires. The treatment uses clear plastic aligners that rest comfortably in the mouth and are easily removable to eat, drink and brush or floss. When we begin treatment for Invisalign, we will capture digital images of your teeth and bite through an iTero® intraoral camera. We use these digital images to plan your treatment and design the aligners to uniquely fit your bite. Once the aligners are created, you’ll be given multiple sets to wear over the course of treatment. Each set is worn for about one or two weeks for 20-22 hours a day. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, there are no restrictions to your diet and patients find it much easier to keep their teeth clean. Since aligners are made from durable plastic and no brackets are required, there’s little chance of delayed treatment times due to required repairs. Over the course of treatment, the aligners make small adjustments to the position and angle of teeth. Each new set of aligners gradually shifts the teeth just a bit more into proper alignment, typically with minimal tooth sensitivity or gum recession.
