Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Shannel Beckles moved to the United States where she attended St. John’s University in Queens, New York. While working as a full-time dental assistant, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. During her time working as a dental assistant, Dr. Beckles developed a passion for dentistry. Following through with her passion, she enrolled at Rutgers University for pre-dental classes.
After leaving Rutgers University, Dr. Beckles was accepted into one of the two historically black dental schools in the United States: Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry. Meharry Medical College gave Dr. Beckles the foundation to go forth and fulfill the ambition of contributing to society in a way that is fulfilling to herself and beneficial to others.
After graduating Meharry Medical College, Dr. Beckles, participated in a General Practice Residency Program at Interfaith Medical Center (IMC). At IMC, Dr. Beckles continued to work with patients, providing them with exceptional dental care all while gaining more confidence and faith to better her skills.
For Dr. Beckles, giving back is an essential part of living a fulfilling life. She enjoys volunteering her time and participated in a mission trip to Guatemala to provide free dental care for those in need. She enjoys sharing knowledge about the correlation between dental care and physical care to her patients. Dr. Beckles participates in continuing education courses annually to provide the best care for her patients.
